Aldous Huxley New American Library Bhagavad Gita Hinduism

Aldous Huxley in the introduction to the New American Library edition of the Bhagavad Gita interprets the Gita as not only the distillation of Hinduism but also the distillation of religion in general. Huxley claims that the theology of the Gita is relevant to all religious people not just to the Hindu because he says it presents the four basic elements of a spiritual world view.
He presents these four fundamental doctrines as what he calls the Perennial Philosophy:

"First: the phenomenal world of matter and of individualized consciousness - the world of things and animals and men and even gods - is the manifestation of a Divine Ground within which all partial realities have their being, and apart from which they would be nonexistent.

Second: human beings are capable not merely of knowing about the Divine Ground by inference; they can also realize its existence by a direct intuition, superior to discursive reasoning. This immediate knowledge unites the knower with that which is known.

Third: man possesses a double nature, a phenomenal ego and an eternal Self, which is the inner man, the spirit, the spark of divinity within the soul. It is possible for a man, if he so desires, to identify himself with the spirit and therefore with the divine Ground, which is of the same or like nature with the spirit.

Fourth: man's life on earth has only one end and purpose: to identify himself with his eternal Self and so to come to unitive knowledge of the Divine Ground."

Of course, Huxley's Divine Ground is called Brahman in the Gita. But after Huxley discusses these four aspects of religion giving examples from a variety of religious traditions, he comes to the modern world-view and conjectures about why modern people have turned away from religion - he blames industrialization and technology.

Because of technological progress, Huxley claims that a utopian vision of life on earth has driven people away from the thurst for spiritual knowledge. He writes about the doctrine of progress through technology: "These false and, historically, aberrant and heretical doctrines are now systematically taught in our schools and repeated, day in, day out, by those anonymous writers of advertising copy who, more than any other teachers, provide European and American adults with their current philosophy of life."

I think we should put Huxley's pessimistic remarks about modern technology into historical perspective. He wrote these words in 1944 at the height of World War II. The technological innovations that he was witnessing were the most destructive forces of terror that man had ever unleashed on the planet. It is no wonder, then, that he sees technology as the antithesis of the religious life.

richard dawkins the god delusion new religion

watched richard dawkins the god delusion yesterday and he uses a lot of poor evidence in his argument about christianity and mainstream religions be wrong, also probably new age religion as well.

richard dawkins and the god delusion fair to recognize that there is a lot of truth in traditional religions like christianity, but instead richard dawkins and the god delusion documentary just say this or that is wrong so the whole thing is wrong!.

this shows that richard dawkins has a agenda of totally missing facts and truths, and is more focused on just pushing his atheist agenda, dawkins acts totally one sided and single minded with his god delusion documentary and misses a lot of evidence or even avoids a lot of evidence that does not support his agenda and stance.

all in all the god delusion documentary by richard dawkins is a mish mash of his ideas spun a certain way to try and achieve a certain effect on the viewer, exactly the same as dawkins blames religions for doing.

and so richard loses his high ground and just appears another mind controller with a mixture of truth lies and half truths and suppositions.

really with religion you should be looking for truths and light not just saying well that bits wrong so it all must be wrong, this is closed minded thinking, and you miss out on getting a better understanding of religion and instead end up with a closed minded understanding which is not a understanding, just a closed mind to other avenues in the world and your learning.

all people like dawkins are trying to achieve is push there version of truth and not the whole truth, just look for a nice easy system and say this is the way it is, and then close there minds, rather then say lets look for the truth and find what answers are there even if it takes time.

not well that bits wrong so discard it all in a shallow narrow minded way, that way they will end up learning nothing and be 1 dimensional thinkers, stuck in a narrow minded mind set, that will not open up there mind and allow proper understanding of the universe.

you do not learn anything by finding a few bits in a book like the bible that are wrong and so closing the book fully and saying it is all wrong, this goes for any book or teaching.

richard dawkins comes over as being anti religion and will probably not have changed his views this year or next, and will be the exact same richard dawkins in 2011 as he was the last 30 years, now this is closed mindedness to the extreme.

all he is interested in is a scientific approach to everything, but this is a mistake, as science is a man made concept in a way, but man did not make the universe, so a fully scientific approach is missing important elements of the whole picture.

it at leasts needs to be a blend between science and magic so to speak, or science and the mystical, not just science alone this is where richard dawkins is missing out on and cannot understand the world in which he lives, and seems to think everything is ordered kind of like he read in charles darwin theory of evolution.

all charles darwin was doing was putting out propaganda with a blend of some truths but heavy propaganda for making people thinking in a total opposite direction, trying to remove the spiritual.

this is probably where atheists go wrong, in that they are lacking a soul or they believe or think they do not have a soul, they are lost, as well richard dawkins has been tricked by such people as charles darwin into thinking he does not have a soul, this is the big mistake.

and what a bad mistake to make, as atheists think that they just turn to dust when they die, so really do have some soul searching to do to get out of this warped and misguided mind set.

charles darwin

charles-darwin

charles darwin does not look like a happy guy, even with the santa clause moustache.

but this is what searching is about, and learning, so some people have learnt to become atheists and this is the way they want to live there life's, but to truly be searching you do need to come out of your shell as well.

you cannot just think you can stay in your shell while it turns to dust like the atheist does, they will too have to come out of there shell after death, but choose to hide in there shell in life, i kind of soul hibernation maybe.

soul hibernation richard dawkins 2011+?
